Raspberry Gin Mojito - a Refreshing Twist on a Classic
Sitting under the sun with a mojito in hand is everyone's dream all year round. If you're looking for a fresh take on this classic cocktail, a gin mojito is a vibrant and aromatic twist.
By swapping rum for gin, you unlock a new depth of flavour, especially when using a citrus and berry-infused gin like Torbay Gin Aurantiaco. In this guide, we’ll explore the history of the mojito, why gin works so well in this cocktail, and share expert tips for crafting the perfect Raspberry Gin Mojito at home.

What Is A Mojito?
The mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail, known for its refreshing mix of rum, lime, mint, sugar, and soda water. Thought to have originated in the 16th century, the drink gained international popularity in the 20th century, becoming a staple of summer menus worldwide. Traditionally made with white rum, the mojito is light, citrusy, and aromatic.
The Classic Recipe:
A traditional rum mojito includes:
- 50ml white rum
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Juice of half a lime
- A handful of fresh mint leaves
- Soda water
- Crushed ice
While the original is undeniably delicious, swapping rum for gin creates a unique and flavourful variation - enter the gin mojito.

Why Gin Works In A Mojito
Gin brings an aromatic complexity that enhances the traditional mojito ingredients. Unlike rum, which offers a subtle sweetness, gin contributes botanical depth, allowing the fresh mint and lime to shine. Using a fruity gin, like our Aurantiaco, takes this cocktail to the next level, adding vibrant raspberry and blood orange notes.
Tips for the perfect gin mojito:
- Use fresh ingredients – Fresh mint and lime juice make all the difference.
- Gently muddle the mint – Press the leaves lightly to release their oils without tearing them, which can create a bitter taste.
- Choose the right gin – A citrus or fruit-infused gin like Aurantiaco works best.
- Adjust the sweetness – If you prefer a drier cocktail, use less sugar.
